I took a whalewatching trip out of Boston Harbor today, and of course pelagics were around up here.
Last year I saw thousands of seabirds, but this time around I saw "only" a few hundred.
Northern Gannet- one
Greater Shearwater- 15
Cory's Sharwater- 5
Sooty Shearwater- 1
Wilson's Storm-Petrel- hundreds
Leach's Storm-Petrel- 20, all just outside of the harbor. Breeding?
Red-necked Phalarope- four, actually
Common Tern
Arctic Tern- possible fly by
Early migrants such as shorebirds, Barn and Bank Swallows, Yellow Warblers, American Redstarts, and Northern Waterthrushs are all moving south. If they have not shown up in south Florida yet, they will soon. Sit tight for a few weeks and head to the sod farms!
Webmaster, I apologize if this needs to be removed.
Alex,
Wellesley, MA for several more days
