Early this morning, while driving down Arthur Lamb Road (the road that leads to Jimbo's) on Virginia Key, I spotted the resident Great Black-Hawk on a snag near the toll booth. The hawk allowed relatively close approach and called several times while I was present. A Gray Kingbird later landed on a limb just above the hawk, but neither appeared to mind the other's presence.

At Virginia Key Beach Park, three Roseate Spoonbills and a Reddish Egret were among the waders present in the restored wetland. A Spotted Sandpiper was observed on one of the jetties along Bear Cut. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park was very quiet this morning; only one each of Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Yellow-throated Warbler. Two Piping Plovers were among the shorebirds present on the mudflats at Crandon Beach. Also present were Black-bellied, Wilson's and Semipalmated Plovers, Ruddy Turnstones and Sanderlings, plus about 150 Least Terns, a few Royal Terns and two Black Skimmers. Laughing Gulls were the only gull species observed.
