I planted a replica hammock at two of my properties over the years, including my present residence.

The best way to proceed is to have an auger come in and drill 18"-36" holes randomly about 10' apart.

Upper canopy trees should be placed 30-40' apart, and include:
Gumbo-Limbo (Bursera simaruba)
Mastic (Sideroxylon foetidissimum)
Willow-Bustic (Sideroxylon salicifolia)
Shortleaf Fig (Ficus citrifolia)
Wild Tamarind (Lysiloma latisiliquum)

Mid-canopy trees should be placed 20' apart and include:
Lancewood (Ocotea coriacea)
Pigeon-Plum (Coccoloba diversifolia)
West Indian Cherry (Prunus myrtifolia)
Satinleaf (Chrysophyllum oliviforme)
Bahama Strongback (Bourreria succulenta)
Buttonwood (Conocarpus erecta)
White Stopper (Eugenia axillaris)
Spanish Stopper (Eugenia foetida)
Redberry Stopper (Eugenia confusa)
Simpson Stopper (Myrcianthes fragrans)

Understory shrubs should be placed 10' apart and include:
Shiny-Leaf Wild Coffee (Psychotria nervosa)
Soft-Leaf Wild Coffee (Psychotria sulzneri)
Bird Pepper (Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum)

Around the fringe I'd plant the following:
Florida Trema (Trema micranthum)
Potato Tree (Solanum erianthum)
Firebush (Hamelia patens)
Butterfly Sage (Cordia globosa)
Greenheart (Colubrina arborescens)
Jack-in-the-Bush (Chromolaena odorata)

There are lots of other choices too but those should give you a good start. If you're within the city limits of Homestead, be aware that you might get cited for having too many trees in your yard!! They prefer the look that includes a manicured lawn and a Queen Palm with a ring of red mulch around it.

If anyone ever wants to come visit my hacienda for a yard tour, let me know.
