Remember that day that Trey and I went to the rock pit on US-1 to see White Pelicans, and on the way back found a Tropical Kingbird. Man, that was awesome. Oh wait, that was today! After seeing about a dozen White Pelicans at the rock pit 2 miles down US-1 after Florida City (thanks Larry), we took the long way home checking out areas east of Card Sound Rd and along the stair step area. At the corner of 316 St. and SW 112 Ave. we spotted and later heard a Tropical Kingbird on the wires. Trey got some good shots. It flew into the tree farm to the east just before Larry arrived and perched on some palms. Now here's the real question: Is this the same one that stayed all winter at Dump Marsh? Did the second Tropical also stayed and could this be a nesting bird? This bird is worth looking for again to see if in fact we have breeding TRKIs. Still, it's a truely unexpected find for this time of year. Other birds we found in our putsing around included Bald Eagle, Reddish Egret, Solitary Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, SB Dowitcher, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs.
