This afternoon I saw a Bronzed Cowbird on the wire as I was on my way to clean the bird bath. There's been two coming to my feeders for some time, and this one was waiting for me to get out of the way to come and feed. I backed off and as he prepared to come down from the wire, two adult Spot-breasted Orioles landed on the wire right next to the Bronzed Cowbird. Pretty nice photo op, which of course occurred since I didn't have a camera.
Earlier in the week I saw a dark morph Short-tailed Hawk being harassed by a mockingbird where I-95 merges into US-1. Today, while riding on the metro, I saw my first Cooper's Hawk in months over South Miami. I was seeing them daily into spring.
Be on the lookout, the first migrants should be arriving in about a week!
