Within the last 4 months the ring-necked and white winged dove have begun feeding on unshelled peanuts prefering that to millet, corn and scratch feed. What gives?
They peck at the peanuts on the drive way and when they split open gulp down the whole kernel. If I split the peanut they will compete with bluejays for access but they usually lose.
Is this a learned behavior from the jays and woodpeckers? Anybody else witnessed this change in fedding habit?
