Went birding with a friend to Key Largo and checked out the area where the Zenaida Dove had been sighted. I don't think it has been reported recently and we didn't see it. Lots of Mourning and Collared Doves and 1 Least Tern. Then I remembered Jeff Webber said that Black-Hooded Parakeets (a bird I saw for 1 second two weeks ago and wanted better views of)were easily seen at Caribbean Club. Thanks Jeff! There were 3 at the feeders behind the restaurant. Then we headed out to Dagny Johnson because my friend has never seen a Mangrove Cuckoo. No luck. Saw White-Eyed Vireo, Cardinals, Black-Whiskered Vireos (heard only), White-Crowned Pigeons, Ground Doves and also saw and heard a Carolina Wren. Last time I saw one was at Indian Hammocks before Hurricane Andrew. They used to be everyday birds at Indian Hammocks and just disappeared after the hurricane (don't know if that is the cause of their disappearance there or throughout most of Miami). I also remember Gray Foxes, Spotted Skunk and had a SB Ani at Indian Hammocks in the mid-80's. Anyway, cool to hear the beautiful song of the Wren, good ending for a cool weekend starting with the pelagic trip yesterday.
