As already mentioned, we did not have the Zenaida Dove yesterday, despite a nearly all-day stake out. The last four of left at around 4:30 to Carysford Circle for Mangrove Cuckoo. Two Yellow-billed Cuckoos crossed the road on the way up. At Carysford Circle, I saw one Mangrove Cuckoo fly across the road just minutes after Paul Bithorn and John Kellam left.
In the late afternoon, we (my girlfriend Alicia and I) headed back to the Zenaidahood. We cruised the roads several times and watched the doves feeding near the telephone poles. Dozens of Eurasian Collard-doves, quite a few Mourning, and a pair of Common Ground-doves.
We shot down to Marathon before dusk and made it to the Government Center, where we quickly saw Roseate Terns circling the buildings. They appeared to be everywhere! There were at least eight birds, more than I've ever seen here. I remember waiting nearly an hour for one to make an appearance just two years ago. At 8:00 on the dot, three Antillean Nighthawks called and chased each other across the southernmost part of Marathon Airport.
