The Kingbirds at FIU are Gray Kingbirds. The Eastern Kingbird call is very different, like electric sparks. You may not recognize it as a kingbird call. It's that different. I've never heard a Mockingbird imitate it, whereas they seem to love to do Gray Kingbird.

Summer Eastern Kingbirds are more interior than Gray Kingbirds. They can be found in the Everglades and Big Cypress in summer. Gray Kingbirds are in the city, suburbs, and Keys. Check the breeding bird atlas (there's a link at the top of the birdboard).
