Went to Chapman Fields just off Old Cutler (between Matheson Hammock and Deering Estate. I had Mangrove Cuckoo here years back, so that was what I was there for (too lazy to make it to Key Largo).

I was greeted by the morning chorus of Common Peafowl (aka peacocks). A group of eight fed in the parkinglot, and more could be heard in the distance. Hill Mynas too.

Towards the mangroves, I tried for Mangrove Cuckoo, but none called at any point in the hour spent listening. However, I was surprised to hear a Clapper Rail calling from within the mangroves. The bird was calling on and off most of my stay. It was giving this call: http://www.xeno-canto.org/recording.php?XC=33164 , a call I have only heard once before in the Panhandle.
Interesting that south Florida birds utilize mangroves. Prairie Warblers sang as well, a Bobolink flew over head, and a warbler that flew low over the path looked good for Connecticut.

Next was the Kendall area for bulbuls. I was successful at Kenwood Elementary School, but not at the neighborhood across from the hospital. I find the birds easier to find at the school. This area seems to host more exotic flowering trees. Three fed and fought on top of the exotic trees across from the hammock at the school. Monk, Mitred, and Yellow-chevroned Parakeets were in the area, and a White-crowned Pigeon flew over as well.
