I had seen no Starlings in my neighborhood until after Wilma. That storm damaged the crownshaft of many Royal palms, causing them to die within a year. Then came the busy red-bellied drilling away nice little cavities and then came the Starlings with their ferocious and horrible behavior and kicked the red-bellied out. I watched the whole thing in my neighbor's Royal about 18 months ago. Since the tree was dead, the red-bellied gone and the Starlings in, we cut the tree down. The cavity held baby startling, and then we had a stir fry. They taste like chicken. (No, we didn't eat them!)
