After an absence of perhaps four months, the White-winged Parakeets have returned to the property around the American Welding Society, at 550 NW LeJeune Rd., just south of MIA. As I left work this evening, there were about 8 of them flying between the parking lot behind AWS and Ocean Bank, at LeJeune and NW 7th St. Two very vocal parakeets were feeding in the newly emerged flowers of a Washingtonia Palm just south of the parking lot wall. There was also a Spot-breasted Oriole in the Black Olive Trees in the lot.
Regrets to our birding friend from York, England, who tried hard but missed the WWPAs a couple of weeks ago.
BTW, here's a link to a shot of the breeding-plumage Avocet at Cutler Wetlands, taken last Saturday on Brian Rapoza's TAS walk.
