Here is the list for Dump Marsh and surrounding areas. I did not go into the landfill, but tried to count some of the species that could be seen from outside. No unexpected highlights, but the Gull-billed Tern seen at Cutler Wetlands recently was hunting over the pond behind the wastewater plant, and a Bald Eagle and Red-tailed Hawk over the landfill were a nice bonus.
The list:
Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Little Blue Heron (2)
Cattle Egret (6)
Green Heron (2)
White Ibis (6)
Glossy Ibis (2)
Mottled Duck (19)
Blue-winged Teal (2)
Black Vulture (75)
Turkey Vulture (45)
Osprey
Bald Eagle
Red-shouldered Hawk (4)
Red-tailed Hawk
Common Moorhen (6)
Semipalmated Plover (5)
Killdeer (8)
Black-necked Stilt (18)
Spotted Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper (3)
Least Sandpiper (3)
Laughing Gull (12)
Gull-billed Tern
Rock Pigeon* (I heard these are not considered birds anymore)
Eurasian Collared-Dove (75)
Mourning Dove (26)
Common Nighthawk (2)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Northern Mockingbird (27)
Loggerhead Shrike (5)
European Starling (130)
Hill Myna
Northern Cardinal (3)
Red-winged Blackbird (120)
Boat-tailed Grackle (350)
Common Grackle (22)
Brown-headed Cowbird
40 Species; 991 individuals, but I'm sure there were a lot of birds inside the landfill that I missed.
