On 5/15/01 I found a pair of psittacids (assumed parakeets) nesting in the top of a concrete power pole in Coral Gables (intersection of 24th ST and 57th AVE, southeast corner). I looked through several field guides and was unable to identify them. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what species they might be. Here is a description:
mostly green, yellow forehead (one of them had the whole forehead yellow, the other just right above the bill), yellow bill, red mask around eyes, bright yellow in tail noticed when flying, red patches on wings when flying, dark blue (maybe black?) wingtips. If anyone has any ideas what they might be or other sources I might look I'd appreciate it. If someone knowledgeable visited the site that might help. Thanks.
