Hi All -- For anyone considering the trip to Key West to try for the recent rarities, I wanted to share my experience / bad luck. I spent from 8:45 a.m - 12:20 p.m. and again from 3:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. yesterday at Fort Zachary Taylor Park in Key West. I did not see the grassquit or the fork tailed flycatcher, although both made brief appearances to others during the day. The Grassquit made brief appearances prior to my arrival (near the dumpster), and twice visited the bird bath / drip fountain (once mid-morning and once around 1 p.m.) It didn't stick around for long! The fork-tailed flycatcher was briefly seen and photographed by one person (not far from the bird bath), but flew away never to be seen again. I did not try for the Bahama Mockingbird at the Key West Botanical Garden on Stock Island, but two people reported seeing it yesterday. I concentrated on Fort Taylor, but came up empty-handed! Oh well. So in case you're thinking of making the trip, I wanted to share that even being in the same location as the birds is no guarantee that they'll be seen!! AARGH!
