We took a stroll around Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical SP this morning but the birding was pretty slow. We returned to our car at the entrance to the park and sat there for about 10 minutes deciding where we wanted to go next. About that time (11:05 AM) we heard the loud, spontaneous call of a Mangrove Cuckoo. A few seconds later we saw the cuckoo fly into a tree just on the other side of the highway directly across from the park entrance. It sat there in plain view for several minutes before disappearing back into the mangroves. It is kind of ironic that we spent many hours walking thru mangrove areas and ended up seeing one while sitting in our car!
