This morning, I visited the Chekika area of Everglades National Park; when I arrived at 8:30 AM, the gate was locked, so I walked in. My most interesting sighting was a lone American Robin, perched at the top of a Gumbo Limbo in the picnic area. Other sightings included Common Nighthawk and Eastern Kingbird. Other than a couple of singing Gray Catbirds, no other migrants were seen or heard; my only warbler was a heard Common Yellowthroat. When I left at 9:30 AM, the gate was still locked. For the past several months, this gate has been open during posted hours, so I'd be curious to know if this area is once again closed to the public.
