Three enthusiastic birders joined me on the Tropical Audubon sponsored bird walk at Greynolds Park today. Spring migrants were few in numbers but we did see some good birds. Here is a partial list:
Blue-winged Teal - 2
Laughing Gull
Osprey
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1 pr with immature
Cooper's Hawk - 1 (feeding on a possible cardinal)
Osprey
Black vulture
White-winged Dove
Mourning Dove
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Pecker
Great Crested Flycatcher
Gray Kingbird (in park after tour)
Fish crow
Blue jay
Gray catbird
N. Mockingbird
Swainson's Thrush - 1
Cedar Waxwing
Red-eyed Vireo - 1
Blue-headed Vireo - 2 (singing)
Black & White Warbler - 2
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 5
Cape May Warbler (most numerous - 8)
Bay-breasted Warbler - 1 beautiful male
American redstart - 3 (all females)
Prairie Warbler -4
Palm Warbler - 1
Ovenbird - 1
Boat-tailed Grackle
N. Cardinal
If it was'nt for the fruiting gumbo limbo trees we would have missed many of the warbler species. Thanks to the nice group of people who were on the walk today - it was a beautiful day for birding. See you in the fall.
