On Wednesday I visited Everglades National Park and there was an American avocet, black-necked stilts, blue-winged teal, and Northern shovelers at Mrazek Pond. Also a pair of barred owls with two fledglings were in the cypress dome just past Pa-Hay-Okee on the south side of the main park road.

One disturbing sight was an osprey that had been hit by a car in front of Eco Pond...in a 15 mph zone! Damned speeders! The bird had a broken wing and there were two ENP maintenance employees standing next to it in the road. They finally had the foresight to get the bird onto the road swale, so I called the emergency dispatch number so a law enforcement ranger could transfer the bird to a rehab center. Hopefully it wasn't a parent bird with young in the nest.

Oh, and there were about a dozen red-bellied woodpeckers cavorting around a tree on the north side of the marina. Plus there were some brown-headed cowbirds there too.
