Nope - wasn't an AMBI or a MACU. That's just the thing, it is not like any birdsong I have ever heard or studied... and it wasn't a "song" but more gutteral sounds. My first impression was a ground-dwelling bird, it was sort of in the realm of gamebird noises. Once I saw the peacocks walking around at John Pennekamp, I was sold that it was some kind of warning/breeding call given by a stationary bird in the woods. But then I heard the same thing over at the trail a couple miles down the road at dusk. Who knows... personally, I think it was something other than a bird but I'll try to get it on tape if I hear it again :)
