Hi Folks,
I'll be heading to Ft. Lauderdale in early May for a family get-together. I figure I can squeeze in 1 full day and maybe another 1/2 day of birding while I'm there. I'm the only birder so a day trip somewhere would probably be with other non-birding family so I need to keep other interests in mind. I figured the keys was the most obvious destination for birder and non-birder alike that would make a good day-trip and give me a chance to see some of my target birds. If I can pull off a short 1/2-day or a few hours on my own somewhere I might try the immediate vicinity of Ft. Lauderdale, or possibly head north to look for red-cockaded woodpecker and Fl scrub-jay.
These are the species I'm interested in and figured I had a fair chance of seeing:
king rail
Wilson's plover
sandwich tern
white-crowned pigeon
chuck-will's-widow
Antillean nighthawk
grey kingbird
black-whiskered vireo
Florida scrub-jay
red-cockaded woodpecker
cape may warbler
prairie warbler
Connecticut warbler
painted bunting
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! you can reply directly to: rosqeaux@yahoo.com
