The bird in this photo does not appear to be a La Sagra's. Larry, Mariel and I spent over three hours looking for the La Sagra's and we came up with a Great-crested and a Brown-crested Flycatcher. Both birds called, at one point they were close together enough for us to hear both calls at once. Larry took some audio recording of the Brown-crested and it does sound really similar to that of a La Sagra's. I saw the Brown-crested and saw it call while I had it in bino views. The bird was perched in the exact spot that everyone reported seeing the La Sagra's. The bird was seen in the first mangroves past the pavilion as described by everyone there this morning then the bird flew into the trees next to the picnic table where it also was seen according to the birders this morning. The bird looks exactly like the photos that have been posted, lighter yellow than a Great-crested, large bill, tail etc... Another behavior we noted was that the Flycatchers we saw were chasing Catbirds, Cardinals and a Summer Tanager. All these points have left Larry, Mariel and I convinced that the bird seen this morning by others was a Brown-crested Flycatcher.
While there we also had killer looks at the Prothonotary that has been there since Friday, it does not matter how many times you see one of these it always awes us with its rich saffron tone which is absolutely amazing! It was also an awesome raptor morning as we had Swallow-tailed Kite, Short-tailed, Cooper s, and Broad-winged Hawk in a thermal over our heads. The Short-tailed and the Broad-winged made repetitive dives coming up empty handed. We also had a beautiful Merlin working the east side of the lake.

Nature is Awesome
