I haven't quite experienced the bond with Nebraskans that the writer describes while birding in that state. Conversely, while watching Sandhill Cranes from the roadside along the Platte, I had a nutcase farmer in a rusty pickup try to run me down, while blasting his horn and yelling epithets about wierdos with binoculars. Guess he'd had a tough day on the combine.
