What is believed to be a female sharp-shinned hawk has been at Hoechoka Hammock now for 7 days. Often seen sitting in the solitary cypress tree to the left of the entrance. Last night was spotted eating a cotton rat on one of the picnic tables (ugh!) He was watched for ten minutes before the afternoon deluge sent him packing. that little adventure cost me a dry cleaning bill as I was still in my business suit as I pushed through dense Hamelia, Myrsine and saw palmetto to get a view.
