i guess as you could tell, i am a photographer. i am not one of the photogs that goes katy-bar-the-door after a bird or any animal i may be photographing at the time. i have always respected it's environment and been able to, by being calm, low and quiet, to get a bird to trust my presence.
as to how important is the picture, i live three miles from green cay and have known about the owl for two weeks. owls are my favorite birds, yet i have yet to rush over to see it.
green cay and wako are, IMHO, out of control right now with people. i hate crowds and choose not to be a part of it, even though both are wonderful places. as the people from palm beach water utilities will tell you, these are not wildlife refuges. they are water treatment areas. they just happen to harbor wildlife that people like to look at.
i, like you am no animal behavior specialist. i do have the experience of watching a great horned owl daily from it's birth til the day it fledged at loxahathcee. i'd hate to know how many times it got flashed by photogs. i just know that it did not seem to bother it, nor it's parents.
thanks for your response. i like the civil conversation.
