In answer to Redfish, I spend quite a bit of time in the company of photographers after birds, and have video footage of birds as they are shooting. Occasionally you can see a bird literally jump at the sound of the motor drive and shutter, let alone the flash. This and the tendency of a few photographers to want to get within the bird's circle of comfort for a close-up may alarm some birds.
