Recently came back from Panama (country, not city) and in 2 days of birding had 65 lifers. Overwhelmed by the gorgeous tanagers, hummingbirds, antshrikes, chachalacas, toucans etc. Recommend Canopy Lodge in the foothills (pricey but luxurious) 2 hrs. north of Panama City and Metropolitan Park in Panama City (like an AD Barnes or Indian Hammocks of Panama City) with incredible birding and well maintained. It was fun to see some familiar birds in jungly surroundings like Yellow-Throated Vireos, Black and White Warblers, Tennessee Warblers, Summer Tanagers and N. Waterthrush. Much sought after birds in Florida like Tropical Kingbirds and Fork-Tailed Flycatchers were common. Even got to see my favorite North American bird, the Orchard Oriole, in the downtown area! Wish I had more time there.
