Bear Lake Trail in ENP did not disappoint today as one of South Florida's best winter passerine spots. Carlos and I birded a very active Snake Bight Trail on Sunday and although Snake Bight has a bit more diversity, Bear Lake Trail is beautiful and has its share of good birds. As usual, the graded road approaching the trailhead was very birdy.
Birds of interest (to me): White-crowned Pigeon (2), Great-crested Flycater (7), Red-bellied (16), Downy (2) and Pileated (2) Woodpeckers, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, White-eyed (11) and Blue-headed Vireos, American Goldfinch (4) and Painted Bunting. Twelve warbler species were seen, including Orange-crowned, Northern Parula (2), Magnolia (2), Prairie (20), Black-and-white (3), American Redstart (3), Worm-eating and Northern (10) and Louisiana (3, including 1 singing bird) Waterthrushes. Mosquito (1).
Included is photo of a Louisiana Waterthrush that just took a bath and preened in the sun.
