Itinerary TAS Trip 2-28-09 South Broward

Meet: 8AM Long Key Nature Center: We will hike about ¾ mile through a mature oak hammock. Target: wintering passerines.

Stop 1: Broward Bald Eagle Nest: We will drive south on Flamingo, turn west on Pines Blvd to past 208th Ave where we will u-turn and park, just prior to Rt27. Here we will get extremely close looks of a Bald eagle pair with two eaglets in nest.

Stop 2: Markham Park dike: We will return to Flamingo north to State Rd 84 west to Markham Park. We will park outside the park at the Water Management Road. We will hike 1.5 miles along the dike. Targets: King Rail, Snail Kite, Waders and Passerines.

Stop 3: Lunch: Return to Long Key for Picnic.

Stop 4: Plantation Preservation: Go north to RT 595, to University (north) to Broward (east). The plantation will be on the right look for golf course. Targets: Shoveler and Clay-colored Sparrow.

Stop 5: Ani search: Return to 595, east to airport and south on Route 1 to Old Griffin Rd Target: Smooth billed Ani
