An unidentified hummingbird was first sighted by Roger Hammer, Director, Castellow Hammock, on July 17 and wasn't seen again until the afternoon of July 21. On July 22 Roger Hammer and Jim King got good views of it perching and hovering at flowers, and it appears to be a female or immature male Ruby-throated Hummingbird. It is green above, white below with perhaps some slight coloring of the throat (which appears black in full sun). It is now being seen regularly at flowers in the Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden in the front of the park and often perches in the oaks next to the parking lot. The fact that a hummingbird is here in July is definitely of note. The park is located at 22301 SW 162 Avenue, 1/2 mile south of SW 216 Street. The phone number is 305/242-7688. If the park gate is closed, park outside and walk in. It visits the flowers of Firebush, Geiger Tree, and Pink Porterweed.
