Activity is picking up in the flooded fields north of
the tower on US 27 in Palm Beach County. Shorebirds
seen yesterday included Pectoral Sandpiper, Least
Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, Greater and Lesser
Yellowlegs, and Black-necked Stilt. Well over 100
American White Pelicans are present, as are good
numbers of Roeate Spoonbills among the thousands of
waders. Mottled Duck and Least Tern were also seen.

At the red cedars on Miami Canal Road, three Barn Owls
were seen, as well as five Swallow-tailed Kites and a
single Yellow-crowned Night Heron among several roosting
Black-crowned Night Herons. A Crested Caracara was in
the middle of Miami Canal Road near Lake Harbor, attempting
to make a meal out of an alligator gar.
