This morning members of the Underground Holistic Birding Movement (and their fearless spiritual leader, Jebediah) set out on an early migrant shorebird quest that turned up a few nice birds. Most notably was a lone Upland Sandpiper playing peek-a-boo on both sides of State Road 9336 (between 217th Ave and Lucky Hammock). A limpkin was seen at the Homestead Raceway fields, as were many juvenile Least Sandpipers and several Short-billed Dowitchers. At the detention areas (aka Manfredi Marsh, aka Mandingo Marsh, aka Get Arrested Marsh) there was a very cooperative King Rail, two Solitary Sandpipers, Mottled Duck and Pied-billed Grebes with young. Young-of-the-year were all over the place, giving us great looks at little Least Terns, Black-necked Stilts, Common Moorhens and Loggerhead Shrikes. Oh, and we saw a Cardinal, isn't that special?

Let the birding begin
Peace be with you.
