TAS Trip Report: Shark Valley/Loop Road Feb 7, 2009

11 Participants 65 species

While gathering at the Air Boat Station ,we were treated to two Snail Kite feeding very close and open snails in a Dwarf Cypress less than seventy feet away. One bird was banded with a red band on the right foot and a black left band, the second bird was not banded.

We continued into Shark Valley where the group got great views of most of our native wading birds. We also phi shed in two Carolina Wrens a declining Florida resident that now to me seems more common in New England than in Florida. Many in the group got there first ever great views of this colorful wren.

On to loop road where we got most of the day s warblers, Tufted Titmouse and we called in a Barred Owl that was just 20 feet away and provided great views. Photos than to Ron Kern (http://www.ronkern.com/Birds/index.html)
