Calling all Cutler Wetland Birders
I wanted to inform everyone that Tropical s Intern from MAST academy, Jehan Sinclair is taking this area on as a project. She is doing some preliminary sampling to find out the food web, vegetation and water quality. Please assist her in any way that you can, her e-mail is jehansin@gmail.com. Her goals are to gain public support broadly and funding to improve the protection for this area, make sure it is managed properly and possibly make it an Audubon center in the future.
Currently she wants to compile a species list of the birds that use the area, find out what they are feeding on, and what native vegetation is there supporting this system, this will help us define management and make recommendations to Cutler Bay, South Florida Management District and Miami-Dade county for the management and protection of this area.
Any photos, bird lists, identification help or mentoring you can offer through this process would be of great assistance. Please send files directly to Jehan or mail them to Tropical Audubon, 5530 Sunset Drive, Miami, FL 33143
Your expertise, advice and input would be a great way for her to gain the experience we hope our internship is providing for her future career in environmental Science.
Thanks in advance for your help with bird conservation! This is our main concern as we see common species becoming less common is South Florida.
Cutler Wetlands is amazing! Please help us raise this area in the public eye, so we can strive to remove all incompatible uses.
Happy Birding,
Laura
