White-winged Doves were purposely introduced into the Homestead area (10 pairs from Tampeau, Mexico) ion 1959, and became established. Later on, the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission purposely released them in central and southern Florida for hunters, and to take the hunting pressure off of Mourning Doves.
