But we did have a few highlights. We started at Anhinga where we heard only one King Rail and saw one American Bittern. On the way we had one Whip-poor-will on the Royal Palm road. Gumbo Limbo trail had nada.

We then went to the Annex where we had good looks at the Bell's Vireo near the speed bump. It called once and gave away its location. Other birds seen here were Swainson's and Short-tailed Hawks (one each), an Orange-crowned Warbler, Great Crested Flycatcher, and not much else.

Back into ENP on Research Rd we had a White-tailed Kite fly over the N-S stretch before the missile site. On the trail at Gate 2A we had 2 Towhees, which are not as easy to find this year due to all the burning. At Long Pine Key we found 3 Bluebirds and a single Pine Warbler and Downy Woodpecker, but no hutnatches. We had to cut our birding short in this area when a flock of Tre Swallows blocked out the sun and we had to seek sunlight elsewhere.

At the lake on 107 Ave about one mile south of 248 St. we found a single Forster's Tern but no Scaup. Yesterday, the dozen or so Scaup were close to the western shore, allowing excellent looks with a scope.

I'm not sure if I forgot something, but the birding was definitely on the slow side.
