A tad bit off topic (OT) given the geography...

I just got back from the trip to Lakeland for the ALHU. He is one really nice looking hummingbird.

Here are the details from the good folks at the FL RBA (in case you have not seen this posted elsewhere):

1/25/09--imm. male Allen's Hummingbird, south Lakeland (Christina area), Polk County. Observer: Joe Miasiaszek. Reporters and observers: Linda and Buck Cooper. ID confirmed by Fred Bassett. Directions: FIRST, email Joe at to inform him of approximate time of visit. From SR 60 in Mulberry, head north on SR 37. Watch for stop light with Home Depot on west side of road (and south of 540A). On east side of road, enter entrance of Christina on Christina Blvd., and proceed slowly .8 mi. Turn left (North) on Woodside Dr. At second sign for Shadow Lane, turn left (West). Go to 114 Shadow Lane (4th house on left). (DeLORME p. 92, A3) From front of house, go through flower bed on left, to wooden gate. BE SURE TO CLOSE GATE after entering. (Dogs in and out of house.) From wooden bench just past small greenhouse/potting shed, Allen's feeds at feeder on pole to right or at feeder to left. Please be quiet and courteous in this quiet residential neighborhood. Attached photos by Linda Cooper (see FL RBA). See Monday's (1/26/09) Lakeland Ledger for article and definitive photo (showing unnotched R2's) of this Allen's.
