The cuckoos presence in the swamp is weird. I have seen him two or three times this summer and heard him a couple times last Spring. Besides that the only other time I saw him was a couple years ago when I was 9 and just started keeping a list. It was a good bird to begin with. The black-and-white checkered tail was a easy fieldmark for me. The only time I ever see him is in the large fruiting trees, like the ficus trees near the North side of the swamp, near the hawk nests.
At first I thought a Mangrove Cuckoo there was no big deal, but now I know that a Mangrove Cuckoo there is not the usual place to find them. Maybe the huge annual amount of caterpillars makes up for it.
