There was a Virginia Rail at Green Cay this morning. It was at the north end of the boardwalk loop about 30-40 feet east of the gazebo. When I first saw it it was on the north side of the boardwalk then it shot under the boardwalk to the south side. At first I just saw its back and I thought it was going to be another Sora (which were numerous...there were several in the same area) but then I noticed that its back looked different. Then it stuck its head out and I saw the face and bill really well. Very cool. First one I've seen in the area since a 2001 bird at Wakodahatchee. The Virginia is WAY more skittish than the Soras but I got a couple of really good looks. Other birds of interest were Wilson's Snipe and numerous Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks, Purple Gallinules, and extremely vocal Limpkins.
