MARION COUNTY
On the 9th in the Ocala National Forest two dark-morph SHORT-TAILED HAWKS were seen near Alexander Springs. From the bridge on CR-445 that goes over Alexander Springs Creek they were seen soaring with a group of vultures to the west, around 9:45 am (J. Puschock). DeLorme p. 72; Pranty p. 97
VOLUSIA COUNTY
On the 5th the following birds were seen on a fishing trip 100 miles offshore from Ponce Inlet: one BLACK-CAPPED PETREL, one WHITE-TAILED TROPICBIRD, 100+ CORY’S SHEARWATER, 100+ AUDUBON’S SHEARWATERS, 100+ SOOTY TERNS, 50+ BRIDLED TERNS, & one BROWN NODDY (B. Wallace). DeLorme p. 75
PINELLAS COUNTY
The HEERMANN’S GULL continues to be seen on East Beach at Ft. DeSoto. Early morning or evenings seems to be the best time for your chance of seeing it. On the 8th an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen briefly at North Beach (J. Bouton & all). DeLorme p. 90; Pranty p. 126
LEE COUNTY
On the 9th two MANGROVE CUCKOOS were heard calling at the .5 mile marker along the wildlife drive at Ding Darling NWR on Sanibel Island (B. Ahern). DeLorme p. 110; Pranty p. 191
MONROE COUNTY
An ANTILLEAN NIGHTHAWK has frequently been seen before dusk behind the Keys Sea Center on Big Pine (D. & D. Marchant). DeLorme p. 124; Pranty p. 254
