I saw the bird last Thursday (Jan. 15) in mid-afternoon and from reasonably close-up, by slowly easing up the beach until I was within a 100 meters. It was perched on the first "jetty" of rocks side-by-side with a DC Cormorant for contrast.

I am an out-of-state birder (from Maryland)and wondered if this needs a State Records Committee write-up?

With the two kingbirds at Dump Marsh I was beginning to feel I was in Texas; missing the Least Grebe helped re-orient me as did a nice, tree-top height view of a dark Short-tailed Hawk near Tavernier in the Keys. I'll be back.
