Southern Ringneck Snake

I know these are common in the southeastern US, but this is the first I have ever seen. About 5-6 inches long, this little snake was in the path this moring, very still until I bothered it. When I blocked its escape, it rolled in a ball, revealing its bright orange undersides. West Miramar ESL, Broward County, Florida January 15, 2009
