Dump Marsh - No YHBL, but Other Great Stuff

Birding Dump Marsh this morning didn't yield a Yellow-headed Blackbird, but bob Warren and I did get great views of the Tropical Kingbird, which was hanging out near the bend at the end of the path. In Dump Marsh, itself, there was a Spectacled Caiman that was keeping all the Coots bunched together, presumably in a defensive maneuver.

Best sighting of the day was a Crocodylus Acutus (I'd call it a "Big Honkin' Croc" to a less erudite croud) that easily topped 13 feet in length. I won't say exactly where this guy was, as we wouldn't want him harrassed by "commercial interests." Check out the link below for a photo.

Also interesting was a Loggerhead Shrike that nabbed a katydid and ate it like a green popsicle while we watched. Toward the end, the Shrike impaled it on a snag while nibbling on the jucier parts.
