During the Coot Bay CBC on January 3, the Snake Bight Channel team (Larry Manfredi, John Boyd and Debbie White) estimated 10,500 Western Sandpipers, but didn't record any Semipalmated Sandpipers. A few Semipalmated Sandpipers have been reported during recent Coot Bay CBCs (2 in 2002, 5 in 2003), so they may be out there; it just takes considerable effort to find and identify them among all those Westerns.
