Yesterday Tim Taylor and I saw four flamingos at Porpoise Point, which marks the eastern end of Snake Bight. This required a 5-mile paddle from Flamingo. To avoid running into extremely shallow water or mud flats it's best to stick near Tin Can Channel, which skirts the southern edge of Snake Bight. Once you've paddled three miles or so, cut northeast toward Porpoise Point. The flamingos were all in adult plumage, colored a brilliant salmon pink. These birds are too distant to be visible from the end of the Snake Bight hiking trail.
