I spent some time at the Harold A. Campbell Public Use Area today where the main show was thousands of Blue-winged Teal and hundreds of Green-winged Teal along with lesser numbers of the some of the other pond ducks and sixty American White Pelicans. About sixty Stilt Sandpipers and a hundred and twenty Long-billed Dowitchers were the most interesting shorebirds seen and there were five Gull-billed Terns among the more plentiful Caspian Terns.
The Harold A. Campbell Public Use Area is part of STA 3 / 4 and is located 15 miles north of the US 27 I-595 intersection just north of the Broward/ Palm Beach County line about 5.5 miles west of US 27 (DeLorme Page 114). It is open Friday through Monday from sunrise to sunset and has a composting restroom and boat ramp at the paved parking area but no water or shelter. The walk around the impoundments is a little over four miles and the trail is suitable for bicycles and wheelchairs.
