I birded Lucky Hammock early this morning, hoping for several bird species (mostly sparrows). Unfortunately, the fields have been recently plowed. There was not a single sparrow seen during my birding there, except for a single 'heard only' Savannah Sparrow.
I did not see Bonnie's Canada Goose and only heard the Sandhill Cranes off in the distance. There was little variety in way of raptors (American Kestrel, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Northern Harrier were the only ones seen).
The best birds were a flock of American Pipits feeding out in the barren fields along with Common Ground-doves, Killdeer, Mourning Doves, and European Starlings. They are very skittish and do not allow close approach.
There were no cowbirds on the wires near the C-111 Canal at around 10:00-10:30am -- only a handful of starlings.
