The Kendall CBC was held on December 27, 2008. Participants, working in 6 teams, enjoyed balmy weather and a fun day in the field. A total of 120 species were found, less than last year s record but still respectable. We also had 9 species of exotics, and 4 Count Week species. Everyone reported that birding was a bit slower than it has been in recent weeks, probably given the warm weather, but that did not keep us from adding 6 new species to the all-time count: Canada Goose, Barn Owl, Lesser Nighthawk, Tropical Kingbird, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and Bronzed Cowbird. All day birding proved worthwhile, between the pre-dawn Barn Owl and the post-sunset nighthawks, both seen by the Black Point Team.

The 5 most common birds seen were: Starling (6,700), Laughing Gull (3,771), White Ibis (2,120), Ring-billed Gull (2,042), and Boat-tailed Grackle (1,682).

20 species were seen by every team.

Thanks to all the participants: Team Matheson (Jeff Weber, Miguel Padura, Edith Einsbruch, Joe Barros), Team Deering (Trey Mitchell, Bill Searcy, Ernie Lent), Team Black Point (Roberto Torres, Paul Bithorn, Raul Urguelles), Team Barnes (Brian Rapoza, Taj Schottland, Paul Joseph, Honey Orland, Jeanette Rawle), Team Thompson (Bryant Roberts, ably serving alone!) and Team Kendall (Steven Paez, Carlos Sanchez). Also thanks to Karen Picciano for her feeder count.

I also want to thank the folks at Fairchild Gardens and Deering Estate for allowing access to our teams, and thanks to Miami-Dade County for access to certain sites.
