The tree in question is a female Triplaris americana (= T. cumingiana), and is called the Long John Tree. It's native to the tropical Americas and is naturalized in Florida. Females have showy flowers while the male flowers, borne on separate trees, are insignificant. It's related to the sea grape and pigeon-plum.
