Visiting birder Mike Resch of Massachusetts was here for two days and found a couple of birds I thought are worth reporting. He saw 16 Flamingoes at around 10:30 this morning in Snake Bight. From the boardwalk, he walked out on the flats to the west to get a view beyond the mangroves, then scoping towards the southeast spotted the Flamingoes out a ways. If anyone decides to venture out on these flats, do it carefully. I had a scary moment out there when I was stuck almost waist deep in that stuff. I'll never forget the sound made when pulling a pair of boots from out of 4 feet of mud: schhhlooooooop!

Mike also looked for White-tailed Kite in the morning, and found one in a field about 2 miles north of the main park road along the west side of the C-111. Best news of all, he was there in the morning when they opened the gate, and he was told that it's OK to drive in there. The gate is closed again at 5:30. There is a nice fallow field after passing all the planted fields, and the Kite was perched out on a snag.
